3 academic staff from Razak School made an official visit to Sudan from the 28th December 2012 to 5th January 2013). The delegation was headed by the dean Prof. Dr. Awaluddin Mohamed Shaharoun. Accompanying were Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zainai Mohamed and Dr. Abdelgadir Mohamed Mahmoud. The visit was organised by High Level Aviation Academy (HLAA), a training institute set up under Saffat Aviation.
The objectives of this visit were to discuss with HLAA to set-up a collaboration between both entities to offer Razak School Programmes in Khartoum. The delegation visited many places including the High Level Aviation Academy complex, GIAD Industrial Complex – car factory (assembly plant), Sudan Ministry of Higher Education, Khartoum University Faculty of Engineering, Karari University, Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Gezira State Cotton Factory. A courtesy visit was made to His Excellency the Malaysian Ambassador to Khartoum.
Prof Awaluddin made a social visit to the Gezira State Governor Office in Wad Madani 2 hours drive from Khartoum where he met up with the Governor who was an old friend when they were both studying in the UK. The Federation of Engineers in Sudan arranged a special seminar in which Dato Zainai and Prof Awaluddin were made to deliver 2 talks at their opulent headquarters in front of a well attended audience. A lively discussion ensued. Attending were also a few UTM alumni who attended when they heard UTM officials were in Khartoum. There is a growing number of UTM alumni in Khartoum and the Sudan and they were very impressed with their stay in Malaysia and are now our unofficial ambassadors to all and sundry.
The hosts went out of their way to entertain the UTM delegation with social trips, dinners and sampling of the typical Sudanese culture, hospitality and local delicacies including raw camel liver. It was certainly an eye opener to see and experience Sudan at close quarters free from all the adverse publicity from the Western Media.
HLAA and UTM Razak School intends to collaborate closely in a long term venture to produced highly trained manpower for Sudan. These outcomes through postgraduate awarding programmes of study e.g. MSc and Engineering Doctorates and Professional non-degree awarding training and development programmes especially in the honing of specific skill sets. This programme of collaboration if initiated will contribute significantly to Sudan Human Capital Development with respect to Industrial Development and thereby enhancing UTM’s already burgeoning international reputation.
