Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Ubiquitous–Broadband Access Network (U-BAN) Research Group under the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), has formalised a strategic collaboration with REDtone IoT through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kuala Lumpur on 26 February. The partnership aims to strengthen academia–industry cooperation in advanced digital technologies, particularly in IoT ecosystems, broadband access networks, AI-enabled systems, and smart digital infrastructure.

The collaboration covers five strategic areas: research, development and innovation; talent development and capacity building; knowledge and technology transfer; commercialisation and industrial collaboration; and community engagement and sustainability initiatives. Through joint research projects, grant applications, internships, postgraduate supervision, technical workshops, technology licensing, and smart community programmes, the MoU reflects a shared commitment to bridging academic excellence with industry needs while supporting national digital transformation, talent development, innovation, and long-term societal impact.
