Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) UTM Kuala Lumpur and the Ubiquitous Broadband Access Network (U-BAN) Research Group, organised a focused academic engagement programme from 13 to 16 January 2026 to strengthen knowledge exchange, research networking, and future international collaboration. A key highlight was the technical talk “Goal-Oriented Wireless Sensor Networks” by Prof. Dr. Tadashi Matsumoto, IEEE Life Fellow and Professor Emeritus of JAIST, Japan, and the University of Oulu, Finland, who discussed how goal-oriented design can improve the efficiency, reliability, and application relevance of wireless sensor networks.
The programme also included active discussions with UTM staff, researchers, and students on potential collaborations in AI-assisted sensor networking, energy-efficient communication, IoT, and 6G-related applications, as well as pathways for joint publications, grant proposals, student mobility, and co-supervision. FAI and U-BAN expressed appreciation to Prof. Matsumoto and all participants, with hopes that the engagement will lead to impactful long-term research partnerships.
