Prof. Dr. Tim Bunnell
Geographies of the Future City Reconsidered
Tim Bunnell is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Director of the Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore. The main focus of Tim’s research over the past two decades has been urban development in Southeast Asia, and that region’s global connections. His latest books are From World City to the World in One City: Liverpool through Malay Lives (Wiley, 2016), and Urban Asias: Essays on Futurity Past and Present (Jovis, 2018 – co-edited with Daniel P.S. Goh). Tim is currently building a comparative urban research project on “places of the future” in Southeast Asia.
Keynote Speaker 2:
Dr. Shuhana Shamsuddin
Post-Pandemic Urban Design: Designing cities for the new normal in Malaysia
Dr. Shuhana Shamsuddin is a former Professor in Urban Design at UTM and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor in Faculty of Technology and Informatics Razak UTM. She is also the President of the Malaysian Urban Design Association (PEREKABANDAR). She was a recipient of the Royal Town Planning Institute prize for academic excellence at the University of Nottingham and the winner of several research awards and international urban design competitions. She was an expert group member of UN-Habitat to review the City Prosperity Index and was featured as one of the Malaysian Female Faces in Sustainable Places exhibition held at Massachusets Institute of Technology (MIT USA). She was the lead consultant of the Kuala Lumpur Heritage Trail Master Plan for DBKL and Tertiary Area Study for Unesco World Heritage site of George Town and Melaka for Jabatan Warisan Negara. She was also involved as the lead consultant for the project ‘ Urban morphology for Melaka nomination to the Unesco world heritage sites’ for PERZIM and author of the book ‘Townscape Revisited: Unravelling the character of the historic townscape in Malaysia’ published by UTM press.
