“Cyber-Physical Systems are engineering, physical and biological systems whose operations are integrated, monitored, and/or controlled by a computational core. Components are networked at every scale. Computing is deeply embedded into every physical component, possibly even into materials. The computational core is an embedded system, usually demands real-time response, and is most often distributed. The behavior of a cyber-physical system is a fully-integrated hybridisation of computational (logical) and physical action.”

Welcome to Cyber Physical Systems Research Group (CPS RG)…

Cyber-Physical System Research Group (CPS RG) is in Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics, UTM Kuala Lumpur.  CPS RG focuses on all aspects of cyber-physical System (CPS) research, which addresses the integration of computational algorithms and physical components, that is, bridging the cyber world and the physical world. Advances in CPS will enable capability, adaptability, scalability, resiliency, safety, security, and usability that will far exceed the simple embedded systems of today. CPS technology will transform the way people interact with engineered systems, just as the Internet has transformed the way people interact with information; systems in which computing devices both send information to the larger systems in which they are integrated and receive information from the immediate environment that guide computers’ reactions in response to varying external conditions. Such advances are made possible by intricate networks of interacting computing components embedded in the control systems of automobiles, aircraft, electric power grids, medical devices and more.

Our group consists of 12 faculty members across two major disciplines: Engineering and Computer Science. We are conducting the research ranging from Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, machine learning/AI, big data analytics and computing, indoor positioning systems for smart building/campus systems, real-time monitoring and control systems, image and signal processing of cyber-physical systems, wearable systems, real-time systems, to smart rural systems. Among our interests are cybersecurity, reliability, energy efficiency, and computation associated with those CPS systems. Our research has been supported by multiple funding agencies such as Cybersecurity Malaysia, KETENGAH and Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

Our group members are mainly located in the Level 3, Menara Razak building at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra Kuala Lumpur, which enjoys state-of-the-art computing and conference facilities. Currently, CPS RG has 2 special interest groups or laboratories: UTM IoT Laboratory and Machine Learning for Data Science Laboratory (MLDS). You are welcome to contact us to seek potential collaboration in terms of both academic and industrial CPS research.
